WHO WE ARE
Creating an environment that ignites CREATIVITY, INNOVATION, OWNERSHIP and SELF CONFIDENCE are the truest goals of the Harriet Tubman School for Leadership & Enterprise. Our program is based on the facts listed on the left sidebar.
Children are Born Brilliant.
Children are born brilliant. The very essence of childhood is creativity. Creativity as it matures becomes innovation and innovators change the world. There is overwhelming data that conclusively proves that the current traditional education system stifles creativity and enforces conformity.
Students learn best for themselves and from other students.
Students learn best for themselves and from other students. There is nothing more powerful than finding your own solution or answering your own question through effort. Furthermore, we have acknowledged that even a great teachers will be hard pressed match the influence of a ones peers. We empower our students as well as apply a “it takes a village” approach that galvanizes the entire school body in the pursuit of excellence.
Students will follow if they understand where they are going.
Students will follow if they understand where they are going. Too often in the current system students are forced to digest and recapitulate information that they do not see as pertinent in their lives or their futures. The result is students who are not engaged. A disengaged student can never reach a fraction of their potential. HTSE understands that “why do we need to know this?” is a valid question and deserves to be answered. The concerns of our students matter far more that a result on any test. This attention inspires students and the results speak for themselves.
